A new play by Helen Edmundson, writer of Small Island, is coming to the National Theatre this autumn. Some Woman stars Anne-Marie Duff and runs in the Dorfman Theatre from 7 October to 21 November 2026.
1. Anne-Marie Duff leads the cast
The Bad Sisters star plays Julie Robson, an ordinary woman who is used to being overlooked until an incident on a station platform suddenly places her at the centre of attention.
2. It is a brand-new play
Some Woman receives its world premiere at the National Theatre. The story asks what happens when someone who has spent much of her life staying quiet finally decides to make a stand.
3. The full cast has now been announced
Joining Duff are Grace Doherty, Ioanna Kimbook, Tobi King-Bakare, Tom McCall, Daniel Millar, Hannah Onslow, Geoffrey Streatfeild and Stephen Wight.
4. Blanche McIntyre directs
The production is directed by Blanche McIntyre, whose previous work includes Tartuffe, with set and costume design by Robert Jones and sound design by Ben and Max Ringham.
5. It has a limited National Theatre run
Some Woman plays in the Dorfman Theatre from 7 October to 21 November 2026, with the press performance taking place on 15 October.
