5 Things to Do at Kew Gardens and Wakehurst This September

There is plenty happening across both Kew Gardens in London and Wakehurst in Sussex this September, from rare behind-the-scenes tours to sculpture, running and autumn colour.

1. Go behind the scenes at Kew’s Fungarium
For the first time, visitors can tour Kew’s Fungarium, home to more than one million dried fungi specimens. Tours take place on 15, 22 and 29 September.

2. Dance inside Kew’s Temperate House
The Silent Disco returns on 5 September, with an evening of music inside one of Kew’s most spectacular glasshouses.

3. See Henry Moore in two very different settings
At Kew Gardens, Henry Moore: Monumental Nature brings more than 100 works to the landscape, while Wakehurst also features four major Henry Moore sculptures alongside contemporary art.
4. Enjoy the first signs of autumn at Wakehurst
Wakehurst’s American Prairie turns purple with smooth asters in September, while the Water Gardens, meadows, Westwood Lake and Children’s & Community Garden are all worth exploring.

5. Run, walk or slow things down
Kew hosts Richmond RUNFEST on 12 and 13 September, while Wakehurst has a free 5K parkrun every Saturday morning. Kew also offers forest bathing sessions throughout the month.
