A new luxury retreat is opening in the historic heart of Ghent this autumn. 1898 Porter’s House opens on 1 September 2026, combining heritage interiors, private terraces, wellness touches and a prime canal-side location.
1. You can book a room or the entire house
Guests can choose individual rooms and suites, or reserve the whole property for a private stay for up to 10 people. Butler service, private chefs and VIP concierge arrangements can also be requested.
2. Some suites come with serious wellness extras
Selected suites feature private terraces with copper plunge baths, an infrared sauna and ice showers, all overlooking Ghent’s historic centre.
3. The building has a fascinating past
The property originally served as the Porter’s House for the neighbouring former main post office, now home to boutique hotel 1898 The Post.
4. The interiors mix history with modern luxury
Original doors, fireplaces and high ceilings have been retained, alongside marble bathrooms, antique furniture, handmade rugs and richly textured fabrics. The refurbishment was led by Belgian designer Geraldine Dohogne.
5. It is right in the heart of Ghent
Guests are surrounded by canals, medieval architecture, cafés, restaurants, galleries and shops, with Brussels and Antwerp also easily reached by train.
