1. Dilys and Gail are best friends and partners in a cleaning business.
2. Dilys hides the letter that arrives from Anne, her daughter in Australia, without reading it.
3. At work, she tries not to think about how her daughter ran away with Gail’s husband.
4. Dilys is always looking for a man and so it seems is Gladys, the new cleaner, who has set her sights on Gail’s live-in-lover, Bradley.
5. Dilys wonders whether to tell Gail that Gladys and Bradley have been seen together.
6. More letters arrive and are hidden.
7. Dilys’s lodger, Will, finds the letters and writes on one to say he’s off to Scotland for a few days.
8. Dilys realises she needs to open them before Will returns but it’s Johnny Sparkle, the window cleaner who flirts with all his female customers, who reads them to her.
9. Anne is coming home, but how is everyone going to react?
10. Dilys just wants some fun and is attracted to Johnny. 
11. Anne arrives on the doorstep and everyone is forgiving except Gail’s mother.
12.  Dilys sees Bradley and Gladys leaving the office late at night.
13. Dilys is getting on well with Johnny until she sees him stop his van to give Gladys a lift.
14. Dilys is concerned that her lodger and Anne are in love.
15. Bradley’s surprise is revealed and gives the reason why Gladys has been seen with him, and with Johnny.
16. Johnny has a serious accident leaving Dilys with the decision of whether this relationship could ever be serious.
