Physics teacher mums—especially those with young children—often find themselves balancing three incredibly demanding roles: educator, scientist, and parent. It’s a unique and often isolating challenge, which is why this brilliant opportunity from The MTPT Project, supported by The Ogden Trust, is such a valuable lifeline.

1. It’s Designed Specifically for Physics Teacher Mums
This initiative is tailored for secondary Physics teachers in the UK who are either:
- On maternity leave, or
- Within the first five years of returning to the classroom after maternity leave.
The MTPT Project recognises how niche—and how important—this community is.
2. 1:1 Coaching Places Are Fully Sponsored
Thanks to funding from The Ogden Trust, five one-to-one coaching places are available, completely free of charge. The coaching runs over six months and supports:
- Confidence building
- Career reflection
- Work-life balance
- Exploring future leadership
It’s personalised, practical, and designed to work around you and your family life.
3. The Programme Has Proven Impact
This is not a new idea—it’s the continuation of a successful two-year partnership. Previous participants have used the space to reflect on their career journey, build momentum after time away from teaching, and even move into leadership positions. Others have simply appreciated a safe, affirming space to talk and think.
4. Applications Are Open Now
The five sponsored places will be allocated on a rolling basis, so early application is advised. If this sounds like something for you—or someone you know—find out more and apply via the official MTPT blog post.
5. Help Spread the Word
If you’re not eligible but know a Physics teacher mum who might be, please share the opportunity. It might be someone currently on maternity leave, or someone who’s quietly trying to regain their confidence after returning to work.

This isn’t just CPD. It’s a chance to be seen, supported, and empowered as both a teacher and a mother in a subject that desperately needs more women in leadership. If that’s you—or someone you know—please don’t miss it.
