1. A Rare Spider Has Been Spotted at WWT London
One of the UK’s most elusive spiders, the Enoplognatha caricis (or E. caricis), has been spotted for the very first time in London. Regular visitor and spider enthusiast Shreyas Kuchibhotla made the remarkable discovery while sifting through moss in the ‘Wild Side’ area of the Centre. Until now, this spider had only been recorded three times in the UK over the past 30 years.
2. A Conservation Success Story
The rare sighting is a testament to the London Wetland Centre’s outstanding habitat management. The reserve’s carefully maintained water channels, wet fen areas, and bushy grasslands create the perfect environment for rare species like E. caricis to thrive. This exciting find shows just how important urban wetlands are for supporting vulnerable wildlife.
3. Explore Over 105 Acres of Nature
Situated in Richmond upon Thames, the London Wetland Centre offers more than 105 acres of stunning wetland habitat. Opened in 2000, it has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest and brings a slice of the great British countryside into the heart of London. Visitors can enjoy lakes, pools, marshes, and an extraordinary variety of wildlife.
4. Family-Friendly Wildlife Adventures
The Centre is a wonderful day out for all ages. With six wildlife-watching hides, year-round events, children’s activities, and interactive ways to get close to nature, it’s ideal for families. All paths are flat and fully accessible, ensuring everyone can enjoy exploring the wetlands with ease.
