5 Reasons to Get Excited About Soho Theatre Walthamstow

The long-awaited opening of Soho Theatre Walthamstow is finally upon us, and it’s more than just a new venue – it’s a full-blown cultural comeback. Set in the beautifully restored 1930s Granada building, this East London gem is ready to welcome the bold, the hilarious and the heartfelt to its stage. Here are five reasons to mark your diaries now.

1. The Line-Up Is Nothing Short of Legendary

From international comedy superstars to genre-defying cabaret acts, the opening programme reads like a who’s who of live performance. Expect names like Dara O’Briain, Josie Long, Suzi Ruffell, Ahir Shah, and Tim Minchin, alongside rising stars such as Josh Johnson, Dale Elliott Jr., and Biswa Kalyan Rath. Whether you’re into razor-sharp stand-up or beautifully odd theatre, there’s something for everyone.

2. ‘Neon Nights’ Brings Soho’s Signature Sparkle

Soho Theatre’s brand-new showcase, Neon Nights, is a monthly extravaganza pulling in top comedy names for one-night-only events. Think Sara Pascoe, Phil Wang, Rosie Jones, Sindhu Vee, Larry Dean and many more. Hosted by the likes of Thanyia Moore and Catherine Bohart, this is your go-to for big laughs and even bigger line-ups.

3. A Major Return: Bryony Kimmings Is Back

Theatre-maker Bryony Kimmings makes a triumphant return with Bog Witch, her first show in five years – and it’s been commissioned especially for the opening season. Expect wild honesty, aching vulnerability, and a joyful rebellion against the chaos of life. It runs from 9th to 25th October, and if past shows are anything to go by, it’ll be one of the hottest tickets in town.

4. There’s Even a Panto – But Make It Soho

Walthamstow’s festive stage tradition is back after over 70 years – and with a twist. Aladdin & The Magic Lamp, written and directed by Susie McKenna, will be the first annual Soho-style panto for all ages. Expect cheeky humour, fabulous tunes, and a Waltham Forest setting that puts the local community centre stage.

5. The Building Has Soul (and Four Bars)

This isn’t just about performances. With four bars, a restaurant, studio spaces and a stunning 960-seat auditorium, Soho Theatre Walthamstow is set to become a true cultural hub for East London. Add in community programming, £15 locals’ tickets, and dedicated creative workshops, and you’ve got a venue built to last.
