Riverside Studios in West London is springing into April with a dynamic theatre programme packed with heart, humour, and bold creativity. From star-studded romantic comedies to moving tributes to NHS heroes, here are five standout productions not to miss this month.
1. Thanks for Having Me (7–26 April)
This feel-good comedy follows housemates Cashel and Honey as they clash over their views on love and relationships. As Cashel navigates heartbreak and Honey refuses to settle down, the play delivers a funny and touching take on what ‘moving on’ really looks like. Starring Nell Tiger Free (Game of Thrones), Kedar Williams-Stirling (Sex Education), and Adeyinka Akinrinade (Riches), this modern romance is written and performed by Keelan Kember and directed by Monica Cox.
2. A Brief Case of Crazy (8–20 April)
From Skedaddle Theatre comes this heartwarming physical comedy about an introverted office worker, Thomas, whose life is turned upside down by a magical briefcase. Expect puppetry, mime, slapstick, and silent comedy vibes in this joyful family-friendly production, suitable for ages 5 and up.
3. Per-Verse (3–19 April)
Blending poetry, performance, and sexuality, Per-Verse is a bold and intimate show that explores the lingering presence of past relationships. With a rotating cast of spoken word artists, this genre-defying piece celebrates language, identity, and self-expression with rhythm and raw honesty.
4. Tending (15 April–4 May)
Written by El Blackwood and directed by John Livesey, Tending shines a spotlight on the real-life experiences of NHS nurses. Based on over 70 interviews, this powerful and moving production captures the humour, heartbreak and camaraderie that define life on the wards. A must-see for those looking for theatre with emotional depth and social resonance.
5. Hotel Elsinore (21 April–3 May)
Blending Shakespeare’s Hamlet with an original story of grief and family tension, Hotel Elsinore is set in a Danish hotel room and explores unresolved relationships through dark humour and poignant storytelling. Real-life family members Susanna Hamnett, Joshua MacGregor, and Lily MacGregor bring raw authenticity to this inventive play about theatre’s power to heal.
