Twixmas: 5 Things to Do at London Wetland Centre Between Christmas and New Year

Banish the post-Christmas lull and make the most of the magical Twixmas period at the London Wetland Centre. From nature-inspired crafts to otter meet-and-greets, here are five fantastic activities to enjoy with your loved ones.

1. Get Crafty with Nature’s Raw Materials

When: Daily from 22 December–5 January (excluding 26 and 27 December)
Unleash your creativity with free festive family workshops. Learn how to make pine cone feeders and thank-you cards crafted from seeded paper that blooms into wildflowers – a wonderful way to share joy that lasts long after the holidays.

2. Splash, Explore, and Play with the Little Ones

When: 27 December
Bring the kids for Friday Froglets, a forest school-inspired session filled with nature play, singalongs, storytelling, and crafts. Afterward, wind down with quiet time around a cosy fire – the perfect Twixmas outing for families.

3. Sip and Paint

When: 28 December
Tap into your artistic side with a watercolour workshop for adults of all experience levels. Set against the picturesque wetlands, this session includes tips for painting with watercolours and a warm tipple to keep spirits high.

4. Meet the Otters

When: Every day at 11am and 2pm
Get up close to Tod and Honey, London Wetland Centre’s Asian small-clawed otters. Watch these playful creatures splash under a waterfall, enjoy their daily feeds, and learn about their fascinating habits from the experts.

5. Enjoy Birding and Photography

When: Every day
Capture the beauty of frosty landscapes and diverse bird species, including American wood ducks, cranes, and the elusive bittern. With six hides to explore, it’s a birdwatcher’s paradise. On 1 January 2025, visit the three-story Peacock Tower for an immersive birdwatching experience and expert tips on identifying species by their plumage, calls, and behaviour.
