London, 8 July 2024 – Cirque du Soleil is set to make a grand return to London with its mesmerizing production “Corteo,” scheduled to premiere at the Royal Albert Hall on Wednesday, 15 January 2025. This unique event marks a significant moment in the venue’s history, as the show will transform the iconic space in a way never seen before.

A One-of-a-Kind Experience

“Corteo,” one of Cirque du Soleil’s most beloved productions, has captivated over 11 million people worldwide since its debut in Montreal in 2005. The upcoming London performances promise to deliver a unique twist, with the Royal Albert Hall being split in half by the stage, offering audiences a distinctive and immersive viewing experience. The reconfiguration of the Hall will allow spectators to face each other across the stage, providing an unparalleled perspective of the show and its intricate performances.

This extraordinary setup has required extensive collaboration between Cirque du Soleil and the Royal Albert Hall. The production, which is among the heaviest ever brought to London by Cirque du Soleil, will suspend an impressive 67 tonnes from the Hall’s ceiling, equivalent to the weight of 11 elephants. Directed by Daniele Finzi Pasca, “Corteo” (meaning ‘cortege’ in Italian) is a celebration of life and death through the eyes of a clown. The narrative unfolds as the clown imagines his own funeral in a carnival-like atmosphere, blending comedy, fantasy, and poignant reflections on the human condition. The show juxtaposes grand and intimate moments, creating a world that oscillates between the magical and the mundane, all underscored by a lyrical and playful musical score.
