5 Hidden Gems in the South Cotswolds

Living and working in the South Cotswolds has given me the unique opportunity to delve into this gorgeous region. The South Cotswolds is more than just a picturesque landscape; it’s a treasure trove brimming with secret gems waiting to be uncovered. From beautiful little villages to serene natural landscapes, every corner of this area holds a story and a piece of history.

Over time, I’ve discovered countless spots that embody the true spirit of the Cotswolds. These places offer a fabulous blend of natural beauty, rich historical significance, and the warm, welcoming charm that this region is known for.

Here are five of my personal favourites:

  1. The Beach, Slaughterford
Start your adventure in the picturesque village of Slaughterford. This idyllic spot is perfect for a family outing. Begin your walk through the beautiful woods, where you can greet the pigs and cross the weir. The highlight for kids is a natural pool with a sandy beach, perfect for a splash and play. Continue your walk through a stunning valley, finishing in a delightful lunch at the White Hart Pub, a perfect end to a perfect day. For more information, visit Visit Wiltshire.
  2. Lorfords Antiques Hangars, Babdown Airfield, Tetbury
This Aladdin’s cave is brimming with antiques that cater to every taste and style. Whether you’re a seasoned collector or just looking for a unique piece to add to your home, Lorfords promises a treasure trove of discoveries. You can spend hours exploring everything they have in store! More details can be found on Lorfords Antiques.
  3. Flying Monk Brewery, Hullavington
The Flying Monk Brewery in Hullavington is a family favourite of ours, especially when we cycle there. The journey is half the fun, and once you arrive, you’ll be rewarded with delicious burgers and the chance to play a game of shuffleboard. The brewery’s story adds a layer of interest – a project born of lockdown. After refuelling, hop back on your bikes for a leisurely ride home. Check out their website at Flying Monk Brewery.
  4. Angel Fish Restaurant, Brassknocker Basin
Located in the Brassknocker Basin, the Angel Fish Restaurant is a delightful spot for a coffee break. Enjoy their selection of cakes and ice creams before setting off on a peaceful stroll along the Canal towpath to the Dundas Aqueduct. The serene walk is perfect for soaking in the natural beauty and historic charm of the area. Find more on Brassknocker Basin.
  5. Cat & Custard Pot, Tetbury
Nestled in a cozy village just south of Tetbury, the Cat & Custard Pot is a quintessential English pub that exudes local charm and character. With its welcoming atmosphere, it’s an ideal spot to relax and unwind. Whether you’re enjoying a quiet drink or a hearty meal, this pub promises an authentic Cotswold experience.
