5 Reasons to See Christmas Carol Goes Wrong at Wyndham’s Theatre This Christmas

London Theatre | Sunday 8 November 2026

It’s never too early for Christmas chaos. Brand-new production photos of the West End and touring cast of Mischief‘s Christmas Carol Goes Wrong have just been released, captured by photographer Mark Senior. The show is currently touring the UK and arrives at London’s Wyndham’s Theatre from 18 December 2026 to 23 January 2027. Here are five reasons to make it part of your festive plans.

1. Dickens meets the Cornley Drama Society

The Cornley Amateur Drama Society are back, and this time they’re attempting Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol. Naturally, things don’t go to plan. The Cornley crew battle miscommunication, delays to their set, actors going missing in action and a growing feud over who gets to play the lead. The result is a disastrous take on the much-loved story of Ebenezer Scrooge. It’s a festive slice of pure escapism, ideal for anyone who needs a proper laugh in the run-up to Christmas.

2. It’s from the team behind The Play That Goes Wrong

The show is written by original Mischief members Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields. Mischief is the company behind The Play That Goes Wrong, which recently celebrated over 12 years in the West End, as well as Peter Pan Goes Wrong and The Comedy About A Bank Robbery. Director Matt DiCarlo also helmed the award-winning The Comedy About Spies. If you’ve enjoyed any of their previous shows, you’ll know exactly the kind of slapstick brilliance to expect. Christmas Carol Goes Wrong played to sell-out houses when it premiered at the Apollo Theatre last year.

3. Big laughs with a big heart

Director Matt DiCarlo says there’s “something irresistible” about bringing the world of Goes Wrong to Christmas. He explains that the collision of Dickens’ beloved story with the Cornley Drama Society’s antics creates limitless opportunities for comedy. What he loves most, though, is “the enormous heart underneath the mayhem”. The production celebrates the magic of Christmas while letting everything go hilariously wrong. That mix of warmth and silliness makes it a great pick for a family theatre trip.

4. A cast that includes original Mischief members

The West End and touring cast includes original Mischief member Dave Hearn as Max, alongside Adam Elliott as Chris, Jay Olpin as Max, Luke Pierre as Jonathan, Aein Nasseri as Trevor, Dumile Sibanda as Annie and Ashley Tucker as Sandra. James Akka plays Dennis until 13 January, when co-writer Jonathan Sayer takes over the role from 14 to 23 January. Similarly, Matthew Howell plays Robert until 13 January, with co-writer Henry Lewis stepping in from 14 to 23 January. That means fans booking for the final fortnight get to see two of the show’s creators on stage. The understudies are Billie Hamer, Robert Lane, Claire Lee Shenfield, Josh Patel-Foster and Jamie Sandersfield.

5. Accessible performances – and tour dates beyond London

Wyndham’s Theatre is offering a captioned performance on 10 January at 2.30pm and an audio-described performance on 17 January at 2.30pm. Access bookings can be made on 0344 482 5137, with lines open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 7.30pm. If you can’t make it into the West End, the show is on a major UK tour, including Wolverhampton (10–14 November), Manchester (17–21 November), Portsmouth (24–28 November) and Leeds (8–12 December). In the new year it visits Milton Keynes Theatre (2–6 February 2027) and the Arts Theatre, Cambridge (2–7 March 2027), among other venues. There’s even a 15-minute behind-the-scenes documentary on YouTube if you’d like a sneak peek at how the mayhem was made.
