Christmas 2026 | 19 November 2026 – 3 January 2027
Need a festive break from the Oxford Street crowds? Just a few minutes’ walk away, Handel Hendrix House, the Mayfair home of both G.F. Handel and Jimi Hendrix, is getting into the Christmas spirit. Here are five reasons to visit.
1. A house dressed for Christmas
From 19 November, the beautifully restored rooms where both musicians lived are decorated with Christmas trees, twinkling lights and decorations themed around music and festive feasting. And with Handel having composed Messiah here in just 24 days, it’s a fitting place to soak up the season.
2. Georgian Christmas cooking (21 and 22 November)
Food historians Marc Meltonville and Robert Hoare will prepare seasonal treats in London’s only early 18th-century townhouse kitchen open to the public, included with admission. On the evening of 21 November, they host Feasting for Christmas, exploring Georgian festive food, with a glass of 18th-century punch (£25).
3. Carols through the centuries
At Deck the Halls! on 10 December (5pm and 7pm), three sopranos and a harpist perform carols from the Renaissance to the 18th century, including ditties Handel himself would have known (£25). Then the Baroque & Roll weekend of 12 and 13 December fills the house with joyful carolling.
4. Christmas Party Chez Handel (15 December)
For a special evening out, explore the whole house by candlelight with a mince pie and a glass in hand, serenaded by musicians and carol singers performing pop-up seasonal music. Tickets are £55.
5. Hendrix exhibitions and unusual gifts
Admission includes three exhibitions, including Ronnie Wood’s Jimi Hendrix portraits and Hendrix in London, packed with previously unseen archive material. Guitar fans can join a Guitar Saturday on 5 December, and the shop is stocked with gifts for music lovers. Under-12s go free.
