5 Reasons to See the New Production of Cats at Birmingham Hippodrome

Birmingham Theatre | 27 October – 7 November 2026

A spectacular new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cats arrives at Birmingham Hippodrome this autumn for two weeks only. Here are five reasons to book.

1. One of the most famous musicals ever

Cats has captivated audiences around the world since it first opened in 1981, becoming one of the longest-running musicals in West End and Broadway history. Seeing it on stage is a theatrical rite of passage.

2. “Memory” and more

The show is home to “Memory”, one of the most famous songs in musical theatre, along with toe-tapping numbers that bring T.S. Eliot’s playful poems to life. Even if you’ve never seen it, you’ll know more of the music than you think.

3. A dazzling dance spectacle

Cats is as much about dance as it is about song. The Jellicle cats gather for their annual ball, where one will be chosen to be reborn, and the show is packed with breathtaking choreography and colourful characters.

4. A grand Birmingham venue

Birmingham Hippodrome is one of the UK’s busiest theatres, and with around 1,850 seats, it’s a great setting for a big musical. It’s right in the city’s Southside, close to Chinatown, so there are plenty of places to eat before the show.

5. Perfect for a half-term treat

Opening during October half term, it’s a lovely family theatre trip if you’re visiting Birmingham. With only two weeks of performances, book soon for the best seats.
