Manchester Exhibitions | 10 October 2026 – 31 January 2027
Artist Florence Peake fills HOME’s gallery with sculpture, drawing and live dance in a moving show about loss and what remains. Here are five reasons to drop in, and it’s free.
1. A gallery that feels like a dig site
Red lighting and rough white plaster forms give the space an eerie, archaeological atmosphere the moment you walk in.
2. Sculptures cast from dancers
Peake made her ghostly husks by draping dancers in plaster-soaked hessian. They’re strange, fragile and strangely beautiful.
3. The Totems
Eight plaster poles hold traces of real people, including shoelaces, hair and a pressed-in face. Unsettling at first, they end up oddly comforting.
4. Live dance in the gallery
Dancers paint marks on the walls while another erases them. Catch it on 24 October, 7 and 21 November, 5 December or 16 January, at 1pm and 3pm.
5. It’s free
Entry costs nothing, though you’ll need to book ahead. It’s a calm, reflective hour in the middle of a busy city day.
