5 Things to Know About Canary Wharf Winter Lights 2027: RE(IMAGINE)

London Art | 19 – 30 January 2027

Something to brighten up next January. Canary Wharf’s Winter Lights festival returns from Tuesday 19 to Saturday 30 January 2027, turning the whole district into London’s largest free open-air light art exhibition. Here are five things to know.

1. It’s completely free

There’s no ticket needed. You can simply wander Canary Wharf’s streets, parks and waterways after dark and discover the installations at your own pace, which makes it one of the best free nights out in London during the coldest part of the year.

2. The theme is RE(IMAGINE)

The 2027 theme invites artists and visitors to see this familiar part of London differently, through colour, movement, projection and sound. It also nods to revisiting, reusing and recycling ideas, realising them anew in hopeful and fantastical ways.

3. New commissions and UK debuts

Acclaimed UK and international artists will present a diverse mix of works, including brand-new commissions and several installations making their UK debut. The full line-up will be announced in January.

4. Entering its second decade

Winter Lights has become a fixture of the London calendar, and people return every January to take in the joy of light art. It’s especially magical reflected in the water around the docks.

5. Easy to make a night of it

With more than 90 bars, cafés and restaurants nearby, you can warm up between installations. Canary Wharf is well connected by the Jubilee line, Elizabeth line and DLR, so it’s easy to reach from across London.
