Bologna-based trio Savana Funk are heading to the UK for a handful of dates this October, including a rare London show at Folklore Hoxton on Saturday 10 October. They’ve just released a new single, “Làbas”.
Here are five reasons to go.
1. Groove is their language
Aldo Betto, Blake Franchetto and Youssef Ait Bouazza formed the band in Bologna in 2015. They fuse funk, rock, blues and African influences, and their sound now takes in Afro-Cosmic Disco too. They describe the stage as their natural home.
2. A brand-new single
“Làbas” features introspective lyrics in Darija, or Moroccan Arabic, with grooves laced with African and Mediterranean influences. Cello, percussion and, for the first time, saxophone add new textures to their sound.
3. They’ve shared stages with big names
Savana Funk have played festivals alongside the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Seun Kuti, Kokoroko and Nu Genea, and in 2025 they toured Indonesia and played Sziget Festival in Budapest.
4. A Grammy-winning producer
Their latest album, Behind The Eyes, released in February, was produced by Tommaso Colliva, known for his Grammy-winning work with Muse. The band followed it with a sold-out club tour across Italy.
5. An intimate London gig
Folklore in Hoxton is a small, lively venue, which makes it the perfect place to catch a band this good up close. It’s their only London date on this run.
