Halloween 2026 | 24 October – 1 November
Looking for a wild Halloween half-term day out? Boo at the Zoo returns to Whipsnade Zoo, the UK’s largest zoo, from Saturday 24 October to Sunday 1 November. Expect spooky stories, ghostly rides, creepy crafts and plenty of chances to dress up.
Here are five reasons to go.
1. A Ghastly Ghost Tour
Brave visitors can delve into Whipsnade’s creepy past on a Ghastly Ghost Tour. Whipsnade first opened in 1931, so there are plenty of stories to tell. For something gentler, settle down for one of the Halloween Storytime sessions.
2. Bat-spotting on the Spooky Railway
Climb aboard the Spooky Railway and keep your eyes peeled for bats as you ride through the zoo. It’s a great one for younger children.
3. Poison, venom and the Wildlife Graveyard
The Wildlife Graveyard and daily Science Shows reveal surprising facts about how animals use poison and venom to survive. It’s spooky, but kids will learn something too.
4. Creepy crafts and costume competitions
Children can decorate their own pumpkin tealight or mix up a sand art potion, while grown-ups enjoy a pumpkin spice latte. Anyone who comes in costume can enter the daily costume competitions for a chance to win a prize, so get dressed up.
5. More than 10,000 animals, and it’s free with entry
Boo at the Zoo is included with zoo entry (a few activities cost extra), and you can still see the zoo’s 10,000-plus animals, from rhinos and elephants to penguins. Every visit supports the science and conservation work of ZSL, which celebrates its 200th anniversary this year.
