If you have ever wondered how people actually get their first break in the music industry, a new free event in Greenwich is aiming to give some straightforward answers.
Industries: Your Way In takes place at Forum, Design District London, Greenwich Peninsula, on 1 October 2026. Hosted by broadcaster and DJ Tiffany Calver, the evening brings together people working across music for a candid panel discussion, practical advice and networking.
Here are five things to know.
1. Tiffany Calver is hosting the evening
The event will be hosted by Tiffany Calver, one of the best-known names in British music broadcasting and DJ culture.
Calver became the first woman to host BBC Radio 1’s Rap Show and has performed alongside artists including Beyoncé, Jay-Z and Drake, as well as appearing at Glastonbury and Paris Fashion Week.
She is also the founder of No Requests, a platform focused on artistic freedom, music discovery and curation.
Speaking about the event, Calver said there is no single blueprint for building a career in music and that hearing how others found their way into the industry can give people the confidence to make their own next move.
2. The panel brings together different sides of the music business
Calver will be joined by Toyin Mustapha and Komali Scott-Jones.
Mustapha is the former UK Head of Music Partnerships at TikTok and is also one half of electronic duo Toyboy & Robin. His career gives him experience of the industry from both the artist and business sides.
Scott-Jones is an A&R Director at AWAL and has worked with artists including Wretch 32. She is also a co-founder of The DEBRIEF and a founding member of the Black Music Coalition.
Together, the speakers will look beyond performing and discuss the many different careers that exist behind the scenes.
3. It is about much more than becoming an artist
One of the most useful parts of the event is likely to be its focus on the enormous range of jobs that make the music industry work.
The conversation will cover areas including production, artist management, radio, live events, marketing, content, creative roles, commercial work and A&R.
For anyone interested in music but unsure exactly where they might fit, the evening is designed to show that there are plenty of routes into the industry beyond being on stage.
4. Expect practical advice rather than just success stories
Industries: Your Way In is being positioned as an honest conversation about what it actually takes to build a career.
The speakers will discuss how they got started, mistakes they made, lessons they learned and some of the realities of the industry that are not always talked about publicly.
There will also be an opportunity for audience questions, meaning attendees can ask about the things that matter most to them.
The aim is for people to leave with practical ideas about what they could do next rather than simply hearing stories from people who have already made it.
5. There will be time to meet people – and tickets are free
Networking is a major part of the evening.
Attendees will have the chance to meet other people hoping to work in music, connect with speakers and start building some of the relationships that can be so important in creative industries.
The event has been created by giffgaff and LOOSE.fm, with support from EATS., and will take place at Forum in London’s Design District on Greenwich Peninsula.
