The Mitre Hampton Court Hotel: 5 Things to Know Before Booking

Looking for a luxury hotel near Hampton Court Palace? The Mitre Hampton Court is a characterful boutique hotel beside the River Thames in East Molesey. With individually designed rooms, riverside dining and one of the best locations in Hampton Court, it makes an appealing base for a romantic break, family weekend or special celebration.

1. The location is difficult to beat

The Mitre is directly opposite the main entrance to Hampton Court Palace, so guests can walk from the hotel to the palace in around a minute. This is particularly useful if you want to arrive early, explore the gardens and maze, or return to the hotel for a break during the day.

Hampton Court railway station is approximately five minutes away on foot, just across the bridge. The hotel is also close to Bushy Park, riverside walking routes, East Molesey’s cafés and the independent shops of Bridge Road.

2. Every bedroom has its own personality

The Mitre is not a uniform chain hotel. Its 36 rooms and suites have been individually designed, with colourful fabrics, historic details and playful references to the hotel’s royal surroundings.

Accommodation ranges from smaller Classic Rooms to spacious Royal Rooms, family accommodation and statement suites. The impressive King Henry VIII Suite includes a four-poster bed, freestanding bath, separate lounge and views across the water.

Many rooms include king-sized beds, Bramley toiletries, bathrobes and homemade madeleines. Room prices change according to the date and category, so it is worth comparing the available rooms and suites at The Mitre before booking.

3. You can dine beside the River Thames

The hotel’s 1665 Brasserie serves seasonal dishes in a relaxed setting close to the river. It is suitable for breakfast, a long lunch, dinner or a meal celebrating a birthday or anniversary.

In warmer weather, the riverside terraces are a major attraction. Sitting beside the Thames with a drink while boats pass is one of the best reasons to visit, even if you are not staying overnight.

The Mitre also serves afternoon tea, while the nearby Coppernose Café offers coffee, pastries and lighter food. Tables overlooking the river can be popular, particularly at weekends, so booking ahead is sensible.

4. Families and dogs are genuinely welcome

The Mitre works well for a family break near Hampton Court Palace. Its Family Rooms include a main bedroom and bunk beds for up to two children. Younger guests sleeping in the bunk beds receive a cuddly lion and a storybook to take home, while board games are available in the hotel library.

Hampton Court Palace’s Magic Garden, Bushy Park and walks beside the Thames provide plenty to do with children. During selected school holidays, the hotel also runs a kids-eat-free offer, subject to its current terms.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome in selected ground-floor rooms. The hotel provides a dog welcome pack, and dogs can join their owners in several designated dining areas. Bushy Park and the Thames Path are both close enough for an easy morning walk.

5. Check the practical details before arriving

Check-in begins at 4pm and check-out is by 11am. The hotel has a small on-site car park, but spaces cannot be reserved and are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. An overnight parking charge applies.

If the hotel car park is full, additional paid parking is available near Hampton Court station and at the larger car park on Hampton Court Way. Travelling by train is often the simplest option, particularly during major palace events or summer weekends.

The Mitre does not have a full spa, but treatments can be booked in its secluded Pamper Room. Private boat experiences can also be arranged, adding something memorable to a romantic weekend or special occasion.

Is The Mitre Hampton Court worth booking?

The Mitre is an excellent choice if location, atmosphere and riverside views matter more to you than the facilities of a large resort hotel. Its position opposite Hampton Court Palace is exceptional, while its colourful rooms and relaxed service give it far more personality than a standard London hotel.
