Parenthood, Love and Unpaid Debts: HIM at the Union Theatre

HIM at the Union Theatre is a darkly funny new play about parenthood, loyalty and the complicated agreements people make for those they love. It runs in London from 19 to 30 October 2026.

1. It Begins with an Unexpected Pregnancy

When Jane becomes pregnant with Charlie’s child, she agrees that Charlie and his new partner, Osmond, will raise the baby. Over time, doubts and resentments begin to place their arrangement under enormous pressure.

2. There Are No Simple Answers

Writer Natalie Ekberg presents a deliberately complicated contemporary LGBTQ+ family. The play explores who gets to define parenthood and whether decisions made with good intentions can ever be completely fair.

3. The Cast Includes Familiar Faces

Dan Furlonger plays Charlie, with Hannah Chalmers as Jane, Gary Tushaw as Osmond, Alan P. Jones as Kit and Julie Wood as Nana.

4. The Story Is Personal for Its Director

Director Simon Fielding is one of two fathers to daughters born through surrogacy. His own experience of creating a family outside traditional structures gives him a personal connection to the play’s central questions.

5. It Is an Intimate 90-Minute Production

HIM runs for 90 minutes without an interval. Performances take place from Monday to Friday at 7.30pm, with Sunday shows at 2pm and 6pm.
