Looking for a creative way to spend the summer holidays? The world-renowned Guildhall School of Music & Drama has announced an impressive programme of 52 Summer Schools for 2026, with opportunities in drama, music, writing and production arts for children, teenagers and adults.
Here are five highlights that caught our eye.
1. Young Actors Can Step Into the Spotlight
One of the newest additions is the Acting Summer Course for ages 8–11, where young performers can explore storytelling, improvisation, voice work and movement in a fun and supportive environment. The course is led by actress Eva Feiler, whose screen credits include The Crown and Beyond Paradise.
2. Learn Screen Acting or Stage Combat
Adults looking to develop performance skills can choose from practical courses such as Introduction to Screen Acting, taught by actor and director Ryan Laccohee, or one of the new Stage Combat workshops led by experienced fight director Jonathan Waller.
From film techniques to sword fighting, these courses offer a hands-on taste of professional performance training.
3. Music Lovers Have More Than 15 Courses to Choose From
Whether you’re a singer, harpist, composer or jazz enthusiast, there is something for every musician.
Highlights include:
- Advanced Music Theory Grade 8
- Jazz & Rock Week
- Singers’ Weekend: Jazz, Gospel & World Music
- New Harp Intensive courses
- Summer Strings Course for young musicians
Many courses are taught by Guildhall professors and leading industry professionals.
4. Aspiring Writers Can Develop Their Next Script
The new Writing a Two-Hander course is designed for anyone interested in writing for the stage. Participants will develop a script idea from concept through to a detailed first-draft plan.
The course is led by award-winning writers Maddie Rice and Tom Machell, whose credits include Fleabag, BBC Radio 4 and television drama.
5. Go Behind the Scenes with Production Arts
Not all the courses are for performers. Guildhall’s Production Arts programme includes specialist training in Prop Making and Scenic Art.
Participants can learn techniques used in theatre, film and television, including sculpture, mould-making, scenic painting, texture creation and set design. These practical skills are taught by working industry professionals and offer a fascinating insight into the creative teams behind productions.
