Interview with pop folk duo Non Talkers

Tell us a bit about yourself or your band. How did it all begin, and how would you describe your sound or style?

We’re Non Talkers, a Portuguese–Belgian pop-folk duo formed by Marco and Evita Brantner. Our story began when Marco, already making music at the time, heard Evita singing and instantly knew her voice had something truly special. That moment led to our first musical project together, which evolved into Non Talkers in 2019.

Our sound blends heartfelt storytelling, warm harmonies, and acoustic textures with a cinematic and emotional atmosphere. It’s honest, intimate, and deeply connected to real experiences.

What are five things you’d recommend people do today?

These can be fun, inspiring, or personal — from small everyday joys to big creative ideas.

  • Take a walk alone and listen to music without distractions.
  • Tell someone you appreciate them, it can change their day.
  • Write something, even if it’s just a few thoughts or a feeling.
  • Unplug from your phone for a few hours and be fully present.
  • Do one small thing that gets you closer to your dream, no matter how simple.

What inspires your music or creativity right now? Any artists, experiences, or themes that are shaping your current work?

We’re inspired by real life, the emotions, doubts, and small moments that make up our days. Musically, we’re drawn to artists like U2, Radiohead, Snow Patrol, Ryan Adams, and Pearl Jam. Right now, the main theme shaping our work is the balance between strength and vulnerability, how both can coexist in the same space.

What’s been your proudest moment or biggest highlight so far?

We’re really proud of the start of our Weight of Doubt tour in Portugal. The connection we felt with the audience was truly powerful, emotional, genuine, and unforgettable. Seeing people react to our songs in such an honest way reminded us exactly why we make music.

If someone’s discovering your music for the first time, which track should they start with and why?

We’d say Weight of Doubt. It perfectly captures who we are as a band — emotional storytelling, intensity, and honesty. It’s about facing fear and learning to grow from it, which is something most people can relate to.

What does a typical day look like for you when you’re not performing or recording?

We’re usually working behind the scenes, planning our tour, creating visuals, managing social media, or writing new material. Outside of music, we love cooking, spending time with family, and taking long walks by the sea to recharge our energy.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given (musically or personally)?

To be patient and stay true to yourself. In music, as in life, everything takes time, and authenticity always wins in the long run.

If you could collaborate with anyone — living or dead — who would it be and why?

The list is honestly endless, and it’s hard to choose just one name. But to avoid being too vague, I’d say Michael Jackson. He was a true genius, an artist who completely redefined what it means to connect music, emotion, and performance.

What advice would you give to a school pupil who wants to become a musical artist?

Don’t chase perfection, chase honesty. Create music that truly means something to you, and never stop learning. It’s a journey of patience, growth, and passion, so stay curious and keep your heart open.

What do you hope people feel or take away when they listen to your music?

We hope they feel seen and understood. Our songs are about real emotions — love, doubt, loss, hope — and we want listeners to find a piece of themselves in our music. If our songs can make someone feel less alone, then we’ve done what we set out to do.
