10 or More founder Debbie Robinson shares her 5 things to do today

1. Daydream!
The last year has been such a blur setting up and running my business, I’ve barely had time to sit down, let alone think. Lockdown – although a hugely challenging time for so many of us – has got me daydreaming again. I have spent a lot of this “pause” time planning my next trip – to the Azores, staying at Furnas Boutique Hotel & Thermal Spa. It’s been on my (long) wish list for some time and ticks every box – a combination of adventure and relaxation, somewhere different and connected to nature, while staying in a gorgeous hotel. What I love so much about travel is that we come home richer for the experience. Through travelling we realize that the world is so small, and we are all connected to each other. For me there’s no better feeling than when you step off a plane and breathe the air of a new place.

2. Connect with the outside world
It’s been brilliant having my three kids all home with me again, but I’ve really missed my friends, family and colleagues. I’ve realized how much they keep me grounded! I’ve been connecting with them remotely as much as possible. I think it’s so important to stay connected with the outside world, not least because it helps you keep a sense of perspective and reality. I’m grateful we have so much technology now that it’s so easy to do.

3. Daily dose of sunshine

This one is a simple one – get out for a walk every day, and make it as mindful as possible. This year for the first time in I don’t know how long, I’ve actually noticed spring happening. I’ve watched the flowers change, the birds become more active, the leaves on the trees change. These are the things that we don’t notice when we’re in a hurry.  I’m really thankful that I have a garden and that I live in a beautiful part of the country. I’ve got lovely walks right on my doorstep. My favourite time to get out for a walk is just before sunset, it’s such a magical time of day. When we aren’t blessed with sunshine, take a Vitamin D supplement (it’s great for your health in so many ways) and get out anyway, you won’t regret it!

4. Appreciate the small things..

..and stop worrying about the big things. We spend so much time worrying about things that never end up happening. Look at COVID-19, none of us saw that coming! Running a business, you have to think ahead and plan for unforeseen circumstances but I never once thought that we would stop flying altogether. It’s been heartbreaking for our industry, but it’s taught me that as long as we have the small things – health, family, good friends to share a nice glass of wine with – the big things will take care of themselves.

5. Spread good news as far and as often as you can

There is so much gloomy news at the moment, and my heart goes out to those that have lost loved ones due to this virus. But there is so much positive coming out of it too – whole communities springing up to support their neighbours. Spreading positivity is so important to keep us smiling, and I’m so happy that I’ve played my own little part in that. Back in March, I decided to try to do something to help our amazing NHS staff, so I started collecting weekend breaks for them. We have collected more than 100 free weekend breaks for NHS, from iconic 5* hotels such as Cliveden, to London luxury at The Landmark, London, to country stays at beautiful properties such as Chewton Glen. When I set out to do this I had no idea so many brilliant hotels would take up the idea, and I’m so grateful to each and every one of our hotel partners taking part. It’s become a bit of a good news story, and, I hope, will put a smile on people’s faces.
