Top five things you must experience in Nottingham city centre

A popular tourist destination in the UK, the East Midland gem, Nottingham, is home to rich history, quirky fashion and diverse entertainment.

If you’re looking to visit the city but aren’t sure where to start, here are five top things you must experience in Nottingham City Centre.

Shopping at intu Victoria Centre 

Located in the heart of the city, intu Victoria Centre houses over 120 stores including John Lewis, Topshop, River Island and Next, providing shopping lovers the perfect venue to bag a bargain. As well as boasting a full retail experience, the centre recently welcomed their Clocktower dining experience which offers everything from American to Thai.

Top tip: Make the most of the Free Wi-Fi available throughout the centre and keep the kiddies entertained with the fun buggy hire available from the Customer Service Desk on the lower mall.

Coffee at 200 degrees

200 degrees’ owners, Rob Darby and Tom Vincent, met while studying engineering and real ale at the University of Nottingham. Fast forward to 2011 and frustrated by the standard of coffee and service from local suppliers, they hatched a plan of roasting their own beans to perfection, toiling for hours in dimly lit garages and freezing warehouses before creating 200 Degrees Coffee to take on the world. The duo opened the flagship Coffee Shop and Barista School at Flying Horse Walk in October 2014 to rave reviews, awards and hordes of loyal customers – a must go for all coffee lovers.

Top tip: There’s many great drinks to choose from but if you’re looking for something a little different – try a rich & chocolatey Cortado using their house blend Brazilian Love Affair.

Burgers at Annie’s

It wouldn’t be the true Nottingham experience without Annie’s burger Shack. So, if you’re new to Nottingham, then strap yourself in and prepare for a menu choice dilemma as every single burger can be made both veggie and vegan.

Top tip: If you’re looking for something seriously indulgent, why not try the Southern fried sister, which features a burger topped with two American waffles, seasoned fried chicken, whipped cream, rich maple syrup and crispy American bacon bits.

Games at The National Videogame Arcade

Experience three floors of fully interactive games, events and activities designed to inspire, educate and entertain you all day. The National Videogame Arcade is a great family day out, a leading cultural centre and the home of videogames. Demonstrating a rich history of the emerging medium, this fun and exciting attraction is one for kids and adults alike.

Top tip: As well as finding about the history of videogames and the Arcade will also give you the chance to play games before they’re released and send feedback to the developers to help shape the game.

Films at Broadway

Top-off your whistle-stop tour of Nottingham with a visit to independent cinema, Broadway. As a registered charity, the four screen cinema screens some of the best films from the UK and around the world, with much of their profits going towards local talent development. For true film lovers, this venue is the ideal spot to learn more about film during the cinema’s many industry courses and festivals.

Top tip: Relax with a stone-baked pizza in the Café bar, which serves a range of coffees, loose leaf teas, real ales, continental beers, wines and more. Their upstairs Mezz Bar also offers the perfect spot to stop and watch the world go by.
