Raise money for and support the work of WaterAid

Artist Simon Tarrant and “Queen of Harps” Catrin Finch Host Exhibition and Concert for WaterAid at
London Canal Museum

Artist Simon Tarrant will be exhibiting at the London Canal Museum from 5-31 May, with a Private View on Tuesday 5 May from 6-9pm.

The London Canal Museum, a 150-year-old former ice warehouse and now heritage building, is the backdrop to Simon’s exhibition timed to coincide with world-renowned harpist Catrin Finch’s fundraising concert for WaterAid on Saturday 16 May at 7pm.

Like Catrin, Simon is a passionate supporter of WaterAid and was recently commissioned to create the artwork for Catrin’s new album Tides, which includes a track gifted by Catrin to raise money for WaterAid. Simon will also be supporting WaterAid with an auction of one of his paintings on 16 May. He says, “During my recent travels across India I witnessed first hand the extraordinary hardship suffered by both city and rural communities due to the lack of sustainable water and sanitation projects. There is an urgent need to supply basic amenities such as providing access to clean water taps, which is why I am actively fundraising for WaterAid.

For this exhibition Simon presents a selection of pieces from his earlier artworks through to his latest mono-prints, illustrating how the theme of water has shaped and inspired him throughout his career. Simon’s interest in the natural world is reflected in underwater scenes evoking imagined coral reefs, whilst sharp horizons lit by blood-red skies contrast with meditative images of deep blue seas.

Here are a selection of Simon’s paintings here that you will be able to see at the exhibition.

Simon explains “I am at my happiest in life when contemplating the horizon across the sea, an exercise that stretches not just the eye but the imagination.”

Experimenting across a variety of medium, Simon is a colourist at heart, his work alluding to the school of abstract expressionism. Artists & Illustrators elaborate “Simon Tarrant uses oils on glass and Perspex, achieving a mysterious wet-in-wet effect, like the Aurora Borealis.”

A self-taught painter, Simon Tarrant is a London-based, London-born artist, who has exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts, the Saatchi Gallery and Bankside Gallery.
